Painting the interior of the home is a favorite one for new DIYers and for veteran renovators too. Because, it is pretty painless, relatively inexpensive, and if something go horribly wrong, it is very easy to repair.

Any adult can involve themselves in painting the interior of their home. It saves the cost required to be paid by the professional painter and can include quality mind refreshing work.

Collection of the tools and materials

As you are determined to paint, you need some helping tools for painting. Whenever you purchase these tools, make sure the applications are good enough, leading to the best paint quality. If your tools are not good enough, you won’t be able to ensure the best quality.

So, try to take the good quality tools, don’t go after the cheapest ones, and there is another benefit if the tools are good. It will last for a more extended period; you can use it further painting. The tools you need to collect include;

• A large sponge and sugar soap
• Drop cloths
• A roller frame block and nap roller cover
• A roller extension pole
• Painter’s masking tape
• Plaster
• A paint scraper
• A sanding block and sandpaper
• An angled  and straight paintbrush
• Ladder
• A paint tray
• Paint and paint primer for new walls

Selection of paint

There are mainly two types of paint; water-based and oil-based. First decid select which one you want to use, then choose your favorite color to put it on the wall.

Water-based paint is excellent for walls but think of the oil-based paint for other use, e.g., painting the doors, windows, and windows trim.

Five steps to paint the interior easily

Step-1: Prepare the room

Firstly, you need to prepare your room. Remove the furniture from your room to have more space. If you don’t have any options to remove the furniture in another room, then cover those with the painting sheets and keep in the opposite space so that you can protect your furniture. And this will make the painting job easier.

Observe your interior to find out whether there are any cracks, holes, or any damages or not. If you find any, it needs to be repaired before you start your painting. Use the paint scraper to apply the plaster; if the crack is the deeper one, you may also need the two-coat plaster. When the plaster gets dried, use the sandpaper and block to smooth the wall.

Finally, clean the whole interior to remove dirt and dust; if the wall is perfectly cleaned, the paint will be smoother, and there will be no bubbles. Clean the room with your sponge, sugar soap, and water. Lay down the drop cloths on the floor and open the windows for good ventilation.

Step-2: Paint the ceiling first

It would be best if you started painting from top to bottom, so paint the ceiling first. Use the roller extension and ladder, angled paintbrush to cover both the ceiling’s straight and edges. After finishing the painting, cleanse your brush and rollers thoroughly.

Step-3: Paint the architraves

After the ceiling, it is best to paint the architraves. If you want to put the same color on architraves and windows trim, paint it together to save you time. When the window trims dry, cover them with tape. As I have told you earlier, oil paints are better for window trims.

Step-4: Paint the walls and skirting boards

When you start painting the walls, make sure that the drop cloths are on the floor because the paint has the nature of covering any uncovered area, so be aware of this incident. Use the brush and roller to paint the wall smoothly. If you have high walls, you can use the ladder or roller extensions can be the best tool to help you. Finally, paint the skirting boards and mask the other sides of the walls if dried already. 

Step-5: Remove the covers and clean the room

When all paints get dried, remove all the masking tapes and drop cloths carefully from the surface. Clean the room and get back your furniture on the places.

DIY interior painting tips

Here are some tips for you to get the best paint as you are investing your valuable time to do it efficiently;

• Don’t paint on rainy days as on those days there remains too much humidity in the air that causes problems such as the paint to be dried early.
• Choose the right color combination based on your personal preference.
• Buy products from good brands to enjoy the best qualities.
• Use the primer if your painting is going to be on a new wall.
• Use primer if you want a lighter color on the darker one.
