HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. HVAC systems provide desirable temperatures and adequate indoor air quality. It also maintains the moisture level by regulating the flow and circulation of air in the room. This system is used both for residential and commercial purposes. The type of HVAC system that you should install depends on the climate, your personal preference, and the age of your building. People living in extremely cold or hot environments have to install a one-stage system that is specifically designed for heating or cooling. Three main processes involved in the HVAC system are the heating process, ventilation process, and the cooling process. Humidification and de-humidification processes can be added if you need one.
Components of HVAC system
The basic components of the HVAC system that are involved in delivering conditioned-air to satisfy the thermal comfort of building and help in achieving indoor air quality, are outdoor air control and mixed-air plenum, supply fans, air filter, ducts, outdoor air intake, heating and cooling coils, and terminal devices. Cooling tower, boiler, dehumidification and humidification equipment are also among its components.
Purposes of different HVAC systems
In an HVAC system, the heating system is made to supply thermal energy to the residential or commercial spaces. A ventilating system is designed to add or remove air from a building to improve indoor air quality without changing the temperature of the building. The air conditioning system controls the air humidity, air temperature, air quality, and air circulation while lowering the temperature of the building.
Types of HVAC system
The three main types of HVAC systems are
- Heating and cooling split system
- Packed heating and air conditioning system
- Hybrid split system.
Heating and cooling split system
This split system, as the name indicates, splits between two units: cooling, and heating. The cooling system keeps the temperature of the building low during the summer season. This unit blows air through the coils. The heat from the room is extracted and sent outside. This brings the temperature of the room lower. The handler of the cooler unit blows the air over the coil which lowers the air temperature and this air is supplied to all areas of the building by air ducts.
The heating unit works in a cold climate. This unit contains a heater that is located in the basement and uses gas to heat the house or a building. Heating and cooling split system uses a thermostat that helps to maintain the temperature according to your desire.
Hybrid split system
This system works the same as the heating and cooling split system but it has the ability to use gas as well as electricity to heat or cool the building. This system uses traditional ducts and a thermostat and provides all benefits of a split system with low utility bills.
Packed heating and air conditioning system
The packed heating and air conditioning system contains all HVAC components in it. It contains a compressor, condenser, furnace, coils, and an evaporator. Packed HAVC systems are located on the roof of the building and ducts. A thermostat is placed on the inside of the building to control the system and deliver the air according to temperature requirement.
You can choose an HVAC system for your house or any commercial building according to your budget and requirements. Choosing the right HVAC system for your home or building will give you a comfortable environment economically and effectively. A split HVAC system will be a better option for your home.
